Brodie “excited” by what Fremantle recruits can bring to side in 2023

Fremantle midfielder Will Brodie is excited about what off-season recruits Jaeger O’Meara and Josh Corbett can bring to the side in 2023.

With O’Meara, 28 and Corbett, 26, the duo join the Dockers with plenty of experience and Brodie is certain they can both play important roles.

Having began to adapt to Justin Longmuir’s game plan, Brodie says his midfield counterpart O’Meara is starting to “show what he can do” this pre-season.

“He’s looking good,” Brodie told SEN WA Breakfast.

“He’s come in very well, he works really hard and he’s someone who is good for the group.

“He’s starting to really adapt, know the game plan, know the boys and starting to show what he can do.

“He’s been big for us and I’m sure will play an important role for us.”

Having spent three years alongside Corbett with Gold Coast, Brodie expects the forward to put his hand up for selection as he proves a difficult match-up for defenders in match simulation.

“He can definitely play,” Brodie said.

“He has an incredible work-rate, he has great hands and he is a difficult one to match-up on as a defender.

“He just gives us another option up there in the forward line, he’ll definitely put his hand up, he’s been working really hard and connecting really well with the boys.

“I’m excited to see what he can do this year.”

Having finished fifth in 2022, Brodie says the Dockers have genuine belief that they can improve this season and give themselves a chance of winning the club its first premiership.

“There’s a lot of belief in the group,” Brodie said.

“We’ve shown our best footy can beat anyone, we were very close to the top four last year and there’s been some proof there that we’re capable.

“There’s no reason why we can’t go all the way.

“We’re definitely confident and we’ll give ourselves the best chance of going all the way.”

Fremantle begin their season with a Round 1 clash against St Kilda at Marvel Stadium on Sunday, March 19.
