Former Demon names Eagles teammates standing out in pre-season training

2023-02-09T08:20+11:00

New West Coast defender Jayden Hunt has revealed the players who have impressed him at training over summer.

The former Demon made the move over to the Eagles in the trade period and is excited to see what a few of his star teammates can do, coming off injury interrupted seasons.

“A few of the guys coming back have really surprised me – Elliot Yeo, some of the stuff he does around the track is quite amazing,” Hunt told SEN WA’s The Run Home.

“Tim Kelly as well. It’s like, you know these guys are good players, but there’s sort of that divide in the media between WA and the Vic teams so you don’t really hear much about them.

“Those two and Jeremy McGovern have really impressed me.”

Yeo played the five games in 2022, while McGovern only managed the 10 and Kelly looked far from the midfielder who starred at the Cats.

Hunt adds that 2022 mid-season draftee Jai Culley has also caught his eye on the track.

“I’ve been really impressed. I didn’t really know much about him and it sort of took me a few weeks to realise that he’s only been at the club for half a year,” he said.

“He’s just one of those eager kids that’s just trying to make a name for himself and really earn the trust of his teammates.

“Everything he’s doing at the moment, he’s pretty fanatical and he’s got his eyes set on Round 1 and not letting anything get in his way and it’s really impressive.”

The Eagles will be hoping for a smoother season in 2023, coming off a year derailed by COVID and significant injuries.

They take on North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium in Round 1.
