Carlton add ruckman to rookie list as Philp joins inactive list

2023-02-10T17:05+11:00

Carlton have added ruckman Hudson O’Keefe to their rookie list via the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period.

O’Keefe was the number one ruckman for Vic Metro in last year’s Under-18 National Championships and averaged nine disposals and 22 hitouts from 11 matches with the Oakleigh Chargers in 2022.

The 202cm prospect had been training with Essendon this summer but the Bombers opted not to sign the teenager in late January.

O’Keefe joins the Blues after a spot opened on the club’s list following Zac Williams’ season-ending ACL injury.

Carlton head of list management Nick Austin says the Blues will invest in O’Keefe’s development as he officially joins the club.

“Hudson impressed us with his ability to not only win hit-outs, but also get the ball away effectively from stoppages through his physicality and competitiveness – all strengths we think will add to an exciting mix in our rucks,” Austin said via a statement.

“Hudson will work closely with our ruck coach Matthew Kreuzer as he gets to work, building and improving his ruck craft.

“We’re also keen to make him a more well-rounded player which will come over time, so we’ll invest in his development and we’re thrilled to have him as part of the Blues.”

In other news, Carlton has placed Sam Philp on the inactive list, opening another spot which can be filled before next Wednesday’s SSP deadline.
