“Kicks 40 goals”: Club great’s huge call on young Docker

2023-02-21T17:31+11:00

Fremantle great Paul Hasleby is expecting big things from young Docker Jye Amiss in 2023.

While the teenager has only three games to his name since being taken with pick No. 8 in the 2021 National Draft, Hasleby has seen enough to predict that the key forward will kick 40 goals in his second AFL season.

Referencing his two-goal game against the Western Bulldogs in last year’s Elimination Final win, Hasleby expects the youngster to significantly improve this season.

“I’m already on the record this year saying Jye Amiss kicks 40 goals,” Hasleby said on SEN WA Mornings.

“If he does that – we talk about this kid like he’s been around for a long time but in reality he hasn’t played much footy – two or three games last year, he came in for the finals.

“But we know what he did in that first final, he was brilliant, so he’s my man.”

Hasleby believes Amiss will naturally improve due to a range of factors including the Dockers having a more experienced forward line on paper this season.

“With another pre-season, better ball movement expected from the Fremantle Dockers and options in and around him to take some pressure off (Amiss will improve) – (Nat) Fyfe will take some pressure off him,” Hasleby said.

“I’m expecting, with his goalkicking (that he'll kick 40 goals).

“I don’t think he’ll have heaps of shots this year, but he can kick 40 goals 20 (behinds) because of how lethal he is with that goalkicking technique.”

Amiss will get his first chance to impress for the Dockers in 2023 when they face the Crows in an unofficial practice match at Victor George Kailis Oval on Friday.

Fremantle kick-off their 2023 season officially against St Kilda at Marvel Stadium on March 19.
