The lesser known players at your club tipped to play senior footy in 2023

2023-03-09T14:50+11:00

Who is a lesser known player at your club who could play some senior footy in 2023?

They is the question we asked 10 of the AFL captains at Marvel Stadium on Captain’s Day. (We couldn’t get to all due to time constraints).

Whether it be an inexperienced youngster, a fringe player pushing for regular games or a brand new draftee, these players could be right in the mix at some stage this season.

See what the skippers told SEN.com.au below:

ADELAIDE

Nick Murray.

“He’s a nice key back, a good athlete starting to come into his own and building confidence.

“I reckon he’ll play a lot of senior footy this year and be a good player.” - Jordan Dawson.

BRISBANE

“I’m not sure if he’s lesser known anymore because he played in those three finals but Darcy Wilmot will probably play some footy.

Harry Sharp as well. Those are the two I reckon.” - Lachie Neale.

CARLTON

Jesse Motlop is the one.

“He’s played about 12 games but he’ll have a big year.” - Patrick Cripps.

GEELONG

“We saw a bit of him last season but Ollie Dempsey I think could play some good footy throughout the year.

“He’s a high-flying half-forward and I think he’s got a bright future ahead of him.” - Patrick Dangerfield.

MELBOURNE

“In terms of the guys who haven’t been playing much recently, Judd McVee is a good chance early on.

“And maybe Taj Woewodin for a famous father-son.

“So one of those two.” - Max Gawn.

NORTH MELBOURNE

Josh Goater.” - Luke McDonald.

PORT ADELAIDE

“Keep an eye on Jase Burgoyne.

“He played a few games at the end of last year but he’ll be looking to push on.” - Tom Jonas.

RICHMOND

Steely Green.” - Toby Nankervis.

SYDNEY

“That’s a tough one but I think Lachie McAndrew, the big ruckman.” - Luke Parker.

WESTERN BULLDOGS

“This young kid Harvey Gallagher, he’s pretty nice.

“All of our young ones have missed some pre-season but he looks to me like he could play from a physical preparation point of view.

“Look out for ‘Gags’.” - Marcus Bontempelli.
