Essendon forward Peter Wright will miss at least Round 1 after dislocating his shoulder at training on Friday.
Wright was forced to leave the track this morning after injuring himself in a drill early in the training session, with Essendon stating that that the 26-year-old was landed awkwardly in a marking contest.
While Wright is ruled out for Sunday’s clash against Hawthorn, there’s no timeframe yet on his recovery as he heads for scans on Friday.
AFL Media’s Cal Twomey says he expects the Bombers to take a conservative approach with the injury.
Peter Wright has dislocated his shoulder. Is having scans today. Won’t play this Sunday and expect club to take a conservative approach as they are with other injuries. Bad result on eve of round one. https://t.co/CmlUYRsDJh

The worst case for Wright will be if scans confirm he requires surgery to repair the injury.
Collingwood midfielder Patrick Lipinski recently had surgery on a dislocated shoulder and won’t return until at least mid-season as he recovers.
Essendon will face Hawthorn without Wright on Sunday at the MCG before taking on Gold Coast, St Kilda (away), GWS and Melbourne (Adelaide Oval) in the coming weeks.
