North Melbourne's Thomas facing new allegations around behaviour towards women

2023-03-22T14:57+11:00

North Melbourne star Tarryn Thomas is facing new allegations around his behaviour towards women.

Thomas is being accused of sending more threatening text messages, two months after it emerged that multiple women had detailed a confronting set of allegations to the AFL.

The league’s integrity unit was told of harassment and threatening and intimidating behaviour by Thomas towards women.

While Thomas is now facing fresh allegations, it is unclear whether the text messages were sent before or after Thomas stepped away from the game on February 1.

Thomas, 22, took time away from football after a set of allegations were made public that included telling a woman he wanted to beat her and sending threatening text messages in which Thomas told a woman “your time is coming”.

Thomas was charged in January with a single count of threatening to distribute an intimate image, with that case yet to be heard.

Thomas earlier this month faced the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on two charges of violating a court order, but those charges were subsequently dropped.

Thomas returned to North Melbourne late last month to complete respectful behaviour training and education programs, but he has not received AFL approval for any potential senior return.

The Kangaroos have also been eager to change behaviour before contemplating any sort of senior football return, putting Thomas through a series of educational programs and meetings with a psychologist.

North Melbourne football boss Todd Viney last month said Thomas – a No.8 draft pick in 2018 – was running out of chances.

"In this environment, you behave yourself into an AFL program and you behave yourself out of an AFL program," Viney said.

"We've set the terms, continue to display the wrong habits, and you find yourself out.”

North Melbourne could not be contacted for comment.
