Former Blue certain Carlton plays finals after crucial Geelong win

2023-03-24T10:39+11:00

Former Brisbane and Carlton utility Mitch Robinson is loving what he’s seen from the Blues so far this season.

Having played 100 games for the Blues from 2009 to 2014, Robinson keeps a close eye on his former club and he’s now expecting big things from them after they beat reigning premiers Geelong 90-82 at the MCG on Thursday night.

Coming off a draw to Richmond and then taking the four points against Geelong, Robinson feels Carlton are matching the best sides.

While Carlton’s last final came in 2013 when they went down to Sydney in a semi – a game which Robinson played in – he is certain they’ll play September football 10 years on in 2023.

“Carlton Football Club are on the up and up,” Robinson told SENQ Breakfast.

“I’m loving what they’ve got at the moment, they had a pretty big loss in (Zac) Williams at the start of the year with an ACL injury – he’s one of their best players.

“To fill that void and do so well – especially early on after drawing with Richmond – to beat Geelong who won the Grand Final last year comfortably (it’s impressive).

“On another big night, Thursday night footy, back-to-back Thursday nights, which is great for the club, it’s remarkable.

“I definitely see them playing finals this year.”

Carlton will hope to pick up another win when they head to Sydney to face GWS at Giants Stadium next Saturday.
