Salem's sidelines stint set to continue after fresh injury

2023-03-24T14:46+11:00

Christian Salem won’t play in the VFL this weekend after having his footy return delayed by a knee injury.

The 27-year-old missed part of Melbourne’s pre-season and subsequently Round 1 with a thyroid issue, yet it’s now a left knee issue keeping Salem out.

The Demons say scans on Friday revealed a small meniscus tear for Salem.

“Christian has suffered an injury to his left knee and won’t be available to play in Casey’s VFL match on Saturday as planned,” Richardson told Melbourne Media.

“He experienced some soreness following the main training session earlier in the week and scans have today revealed a small tear in his meniscus.

“We are still gathering further information and will be in a better position next week to understand what his rehabilitation program looks like.”

Melbourne plays Brisbane on Friday night in Round 2 before games against Sydney, West Coast and Essendon to follow.

Simon Goodwin's side has been bolstered by the inclusions of Bayley Fritsch, Jack Viney and Steven May to take on the Lions.
