St Kilda captain set for stint on the sidelines with shoulder injury

2023-03-26T12:47+11:00

St Kilda captain Jack Steele is set for a stint on the sidelines after injuring his shoulder in Saturday night’s 92-41 win over the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.

While Steele played out the game after coming from the ground in the third quarter - finishing with 28 disposals and six clearances - SEN’s Tom Morris is reporting that scans have since confirmed a fracture to his collarbone/AC joint.

Morris says the Saints are still waiting to confirm how much football their skipper will miss.

"(The win has come at) a cost for Jack Steele,” Morris told SEN Crunch Time.

“It’s a massive blow for St Kilda, after such a positive first two weeks of the year, my understanding is it’s a collarbone and possibly an AC joint, which would leave him out for several weeks.

“St Kilda Football Club are still waiting to hear back about the layoff and what the process is from here on. They will have more details in the next 24 hours or so.

"But the fact that there’s actually a fracture there - it’s remarkable that he came back on - but also a massive loss for St Kilda in future weeks.”

The injury blow comes at a cruel time for the Saints who are already without the likes of Tim Membrey (knee), Jack Billings (leg), Max King (shoulder), Dan McKenzie (calf), Jack Hayes (foot) and Nick Coffield (calf).

St Kilda will hope to remain unbeaten when they face Essendon at the MCG in the club’s 150th-year anniversary game on Saturday night.
