Melbourne star forward Kysaiah Pickett appears to be tracking towards re-signing with the club.
7AFL journalist Mitch Cleary believes all the signs are pointing towards the 22-year-old recommitting at the Demons, potentially in the next month.
It comes following a visit to his hometown in South Australia during Gather Round.
“Kozzie and Christian Petracca spent the day in Kozzie’s hometown two hours south east of Adelaide – the Thursday before (the game),” Cleary told the Tradies podcast.
“They spent the whole day capturing some content for the Melbourne website and I got wind of it and was maybe waiting for a Kozzie Pickett contract announcement in his hometown.
“It hasn’t come yet, but my sense out of the Melbourne camp right now is that this is really close. I think it’s shifted now and Kozzie Pickett is on board to re-signing at Melbourne.
“I think if we don’t get an announcement in the next two, three, four weeks, that’s when it’ll go into overdrive that he is leaving because I think there’s been enough momentum now for Kozzie to re-sign with that visit with Petracca, the conversations that have happened around the list management and his family are on board, I think it is tracking in the right direction.”
Cleary is curious to see what Pickett’s contract extension at the Dees will look like.
“He turns 22 this year, has spent a lot of time in WA in the later parts of his junior career in SA, typically that would be a two-year deal, but four more years would take him to free agency,” he added.
“I’m really curious if indeed he does sign at Melbourne, whether it’s two or four years.”
