St Kilda CEO offers update on King’s scheduled return from injury

2023-04-27T12:36+10:00

St Kilda CEO Simon Lethlean is confident that star forward Max King will return from injury in the coming weeks.

King initially injured his shoulder in early December, which forced him under the knife with a reconstruction.

After missing the first six games of the year, Lethlean hopes King will return well before St Kilda’s Round 12 bye.

“We’re hoping a couple of weeks or so,” Lethlean said on SEN Breakfast in terms of when he expects King to return.

“It’s obviously been a long road for Max since getting injured with his shoulder back in the first week of the pre-season.

“So hopefully it’s two or three weeks if everything goes well.

“He’s certainly applied himself to rehab unbelievably.

“He’s looking good.”

While King is the crown jewel in St Kilda’s forward line, recent reports have suggested the Saints could target his twin brother Ben should he choose to leave Gold Coast.

Lethlean was asked whether he’d spoken to Ben’s manager Robbie D’Orazio about having the twins play together in the red, white and black.

“I did see him (D’Orazio) at the Carlton function on Sunday,” Lethlean replied.

“Robbie was sitting there watching with his kids.

“But we didn’t discuss Ben, I’ll leave that to our list guys, not me.”

The 22-year-old, who comes off-contract at the end of the 2024 season, kicked five goals in Gold Coast’s Round 6 win over North Melbourne.

For St Kilda, they’ll hope to improve their record to 6-1 when they face Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium on Friday night.
