Johns brothers have heated Origin debate ahead of Game I

2023-05-12T13:00+10:00

SEN NRL experts Matty and Andrew Johns held nothing back in a fiery debate over the preparation of both states ahead of Game I.

Andrew, who is widely recognised as the greatest player in NSW history, defended the Blues after Matty claimed Queensland had an obvious advantage heading into the 2023 series.

Currently working alongside incumbent coach Brad Fittler, Andrew slammed his brother’s opinion and stated that he doesn’t care about who Queensland pick.

Matty: “Queensland know exactly how they’re going to play and who they need to pick to make that happen, they’re so decisive.”

Andrew: “And NSW don’t know how they’re going to play?”

Matty: “No, nope.”

Andrew: "We’ll see... mate I’m sick of you (pumping up) Queensland, that’s what I’m sick of.”

Matty: “Because they’ve just been better, they’ve had lesser sides, they’ve just been better, I’m absolutely serious, look at the scoreboard.”

Andrew: “Put your Maroon jersey on, you should have some at home.”

Matty: “I would and I do because they’re easier to admire.”

Andrew: “What? just because you played four games and lost four doesn’t mean you need to sh-t bag NSW.”

After being questioned if he thought the gap had closed between the two states, the Johns brothers continued their dispute.

Andrew: “I couldn’t give a sh-t, I don’t even look at Queensland, I couldn’t care who they pick, I know what we’re going to pick, I know how we’re going to play, I know the players we’re going to pick.”

Matty: “Ok, good, so who are we going to pick?”

Andrew: “Oh that’s good you just said we don’t know how we’re going to play; I had a meeting during the week with the staff, we’ve worked out how we’re going to play, we’ve known for months how we’re going to play.”

“Keep blowing hot air up their as--s… you’re both blowing smoke up their backsides, I couldn’t care about Queensland, he (Matty) said they’re easy to admire, they’re the enemy.

“(We) grew up hating them, we grew up watching the king (Wally Lewis) absolutely kill us.”

Andrew will have his hands full over the next two weeks as NSW look to finalise their squad for Game I in Adelaide on the 31st of May.
