Bag of 10 for former Power, Dog utility as Fremantle great boots six

This weekend kept up the fantastic pattern of the 2023 season so far with another Victorian country footy team breaking a long standing losing streak.

In the Mininera and District FNL, it was the Moyston Willaura FNC who snapped their 27-game losing run that stretched all the way back to round 4 of 2021. This Saturday saw the Panthers kick 15.15 105 to defeat Caramut FNC by 57.

Ironically, Caramut FNC haven’t registered a victory since round 7 last season, when they were victorious against Moyston Willaura FNC.

Hopefully we can get a victory for our current losing streak leaders, the Western Rams FNC in Riddell & District FNL and the Portarlington FNC in the Bellarine FNL, who lead the list of winless streaks with 58 and 57 matches respectively.

Also not for the first time this season we’ve had a match abandoned due to an injury sustained by a player. In the Mornington Peninsula Nepean FNL, the senior game between Devon Meadows FNL and Hastings FNL didn’t get started due to a Devon Meadows FNC player injured in the last minute of the 2nds game and they unfortunately couldn’t be moved until the paramedics arrived. As this took longer than expected, the senior game was unable to go ahead.

Our streak of drawn matches in country footy continued over the weekend with another 2 games seeing sides equal when the final siren sounded.

In the Wimmera FNL it was the Nhill FNC and Horsham Demons FNC all tied up at the end of the game on 10.8 68 apiece. Meanwhile in the North Gippsland FNL, inaccurate kicking cost Rosedale FNC the win when they kicked 10.14 74 to be level with Cowwarr FNC who were slightly more accurate with 11.8 74.

Former Fremantle FC captain and club games record holder David Mundy played a one off game for Carngham Linton FNC in the Central Highlands FNL on Saturday. Mundy kicked 6 goals to help the Saints to victory 22.9 141 over Beaufort FNC who managed 9.8 62.

Carngham Linton FNC are now undefeated for the 2023 season after breaking their 1393 day losing streak in round 1 earlier this year.

In the Central Murray FNL Former Geelong FC premiership player Nathan Ablett played his second game for Balranald FNC helping the Roos to a 15 point win over Lake Boga FNC 12.13 85 to 9.16 70.

Nine forwards managed to snare hauls of 10 or more goals, highlighted by a bag of 14 by Trentham FNC’s Samuel Winnard in his side's big 234 point win in the round 5 Maryborough Castlemaine District FNL match against Campbells Creek FNC. In the Goulburn Valley FNL it was Former Port Adelaide FC and Western Bulldog FNC player Jackson Trengove who managed to kick 10 for Mooroopna FNC in their 65 point win over Rochester FNC.

The race to be the first to kick 50 goals for season 2023 in senior footy seems to be a foregone conclusion as Mitta United FNC’s Ethan Redcliffe leads all comers with 46 for the season, 8 ahead of Swan Reach FNC’s Max Solomon who has jumped into second place this weekend with 38 in total, who in turn is 3 ahead of Bridgewater FNC’s Joshua Martyn in third place with 35 goals so far in 2023.
