Sportsbet releases market on Richmond's next full-time coach

2023-05-23T15:13+10:00

On the same day Damien Hardwick officially resigned from Richmond, Sportsbet has opened a market on who will be Richmond’s next AFL coach.

At the top of the market is former Brisbane coach and current Collingwood assistant Justin Leppitsch ($4.50) and interim Tigers mentor Andrew McQualter ($7), with Melbourne assistant Adem Yze, Richmond assistant David Teague and Sydney assistant Don Pyke all on the next line of betting at $8.

Of the experienced head coaches other than Leppitsch, Teague and Pyke, Ben Rutten ($11), Matthew Knights ($15), Nathan Buckley ($15), Leon Cameron ($21), Mark Williams ($34) all feature in the market, as do a number of interim senior coaches.

Former Richmond stars Alex Rance, Brett Deledio and Matthew Richardson are all included in the market at $41.

The Tigers declined to speak in-depth about who Hardwick’s successor could be when speaking to the media on Tuesday morning and didn’t provide a timeframe for the decision to be made.

When SEN’s Tom Morris broke the news of Hardwick’s decision on Monday night he reported the bombshell could set off a chain of events around the coaching landscape.

Stuart Dew is not secure at the Gold Coast Suns despite being contracted for next year, while Port Adelaide won’t make a call on Ken Hinkley until at least August in his final contract season.

Both of those coaches aren’t included in the market, nor is West Coast mentor Adam Simpson whose premiership credentials speak for themselves.
