Champion Data’s Daniel Hoyne joined SEN’s Sportsday to discuss the five performances from Round 10 which may have been overlooked in the coaches’ votes.
Hoyne used Champion Data’s rating system, which values impact above volume and punishes mistakes, to find under-the-radar performances from players.
See his five performances from players over the weekend below:
Eddie Ford (North Melbourne)
“Good signs there for North, he was our third highest rated player on the ground.
“He got zero votes, but he was actually the fifth highest rated forward for the round across the whole competition.
“Just keep an eye out for him, he actually does a few really nice things and has some tricks.”
Jack Macrae (Western Bulldogs)
“Zero votes there and he was actually our second highest rated player on the ground.
“He was actually the third highest rated mid/forward across the round of any team.
“26 disposals, two goals and used the ball so well in dangerous areas.”
Lachie Schultz (Fremantle)
“He was our fourth highest rated player against Geelong, but had zero votes.
“He was the fifth highest rated small forward for the round.
“It was a pretty complete game from Lachie on the weekend, 20 disposals, eight tackles and kicked a goal.
“He’s in really good form at the moment.”
Noah Balta (Richmond)
“He was our third highest rated player on the ground and got zero votes again from the coaches.
“It was a pretty complete performance, he had 18 disposals and almost 500 metres gained, which is quite rare for a key defender.
“Only Darcy Moore had a better game on the weekend than Noah Balta for the position that he plays.”
Tyler Brockman (Hawthorn)
“He was the number one rated forward across the whole round on the weekend.
“This is the pin-up example of why the ratings value these sort of players so well.
“15 disposals but his ball use and what he did with ball in hand was actually quite special and someone potentially for Hawthorn supporters to get quite excited about.
“He was fantastic on the weekend.”
