Talented Bulldog sent for surgery in another frustrating setback

2023-06-06T13:22+10:00

Sam Darcy has been sent for surgery after a small fracture in his jaw was identified from last week’s VFL game.

The Bulldogs reported he copped a knock on Saturday and scans identified the injury.

The talented 19-year-old was playing his first game back after a hole in his lung was found earlier this year, forcing Darcy to the sidelines.

The Dogs wouldn’t be drawn into a timeline, but anticipate he’ll return “soon” after the club’s mid-season bye.

With that in mind, Darcy’s set to be sidelined for at least three weeks.

It’s another frustrating setback for the top five pick in the 2021 National Draft, who started the season among the Rising Star favourites before falling out of the senior team after Round 2.

Darcy kicked 1.5 from 13 disposals against Geelong in the VFL on Saturday.
