Report: Two new names join potential key defender trade merry-go-round

2023-07-20T08:35+10:00

Port Adelaide defender Tom Clurey is open to leaving Alberton at the end of the season.

AFL Media’s Cal Twomey has reported that he is open to a trade.

The 29-year-old is currently set to miss the remainder of the season with a back injury and has only played the one game at AFL level in 2023.

He is contracted to the Power until the end of 2025.

Melbourne’s Adam Tomlinson is equally open to a trade, according to the same report.

Tomlinson is stuck behind Steven May, Jake Lever and Harrison Petty at the Dees, but has shown a capability to succeed as an AFL-level key defender.

He is contracted with the Demons for 2024 and has played five games this season.

It is set to be a stacked market of key defenders in this year’s trade and free agency period, with Tom Barrass (West Coast), Ben McKay (North Melbourne), Tom Doedee (Adelaide), Esava Ratugolea (Geelong) and Harry Himmelberg (GWS) all linked to trades in 2023.
