Player agent responds to Barrass rumours as Swans urged to make trade

2023-07-21T09:35+10:00

Connors Sports Player Agent Nick Gieschen has responded to reports that his client Tom Barrass could move to a new club this off-season.

While Barrass has four years remaining on his contract at West Coast, the defender has been linked to a move away from the Eagles as the club is in the midst of a full-scale rebuild.

Given that Barrass could net the Eagles some generous compensation in a trade, Gieschen understands why his client has been raised in trade rumours.

While Barrass is obviously a player of interest for rival clubs, Gieschen says the 27-year-old is simply focused on his footy at West Coast.

“You get calls from a lot of clubs about a lot of players,” Gieschen told SEN Breakfast.

“I think because of the position that West Coast have been in there's talk of rebuilding, what do they do and which players on their list might have currency.

“Obviously, he's a player that comes up because he probably fits that age and that currency point of view.

“But Tom's got four years to run, he's focused at the moment.

“To be honest he’s just finishing off the year and trying to contribute and trying to get some wins on the board.

“It's been frustrating and the position he plays at full back is pretty tough.”

Gieschen was asked whether Barrass would entertain a trade given.

While the player agent says the Eagle is settled in Perth and isn’t thinking about a move, he said he’d “never say never” if things changed.

“Look, you never say never,” Gieschen said.

“But for now, he's very settled in Perth.

“He's just had his second baby.

“Right now, I'd say no. But again, we'll see what happens.

“All I can say is that right now, he's really committed just to seeing it through with West Coast.”

SEN’s David King believes Sydney must make a play for the defender to bolster their key position stocks.

“I think Sydney have to get him,” King said.

“I don't think they've got a choice.

“There’s a grey area over (Paddy) McCartin, (Dane) Rampe is getting really deep into his career.

“Their back line, key position stocks are down.

“I think they need him more than they need a top 10 pick.”

Journalist Mitch Cleary has previously reported that he thinks Sydney have asked the question to Barrass’ management about a potential move.

The 2018 premiership player has featured in 132 games for the Eagles since making his debut in 2015.
