Former top-five pick reportedly gathering trade interest from Victorian clubs

Sydney youngster Dylan Stephens is facing a big decision this off-season.

According to AFL Media’s Callum Twomey, the 22-year-old is gathering interest from Victorian clubs as he comes out of contract with the Swans.

Stephens reportedly also attracted interest from rival clubs in 2021 before inking a two-year contract extension.

Now that he’s without a contract for 2024, Twomey branded the former No. 5 pick one to keep an eye on this trade period.

“Yeah, he (Stephens) is gathering interest in Victoria,” Twomey told SEN Breakfast.

“He’s one to keep an eye on, Dylan Stephens.

“He's a former top-five pick just four years ago.

“He was taken in 2019 in that (Matt) Rowell, (Noah) Anderson draft.”

While Stephens played 15 games in 2022 including the losing Grand Final against Geelong, he’s fallen out of favour in 2023 playing just nine games in 2023 and just two since Round 7.

Twomey says contract talks stalled with the Swans once he lost his place in the senior side.

“He’s out of contract,” Twomey said.

“Talks had started earlier in the year on a new deal, but they were paused when he fell out of the senior side.

“He played 15 games last year, including the Grand Final, but only two games this year since Round 7.

“He’s been on the outer there and his future is undecided.

“I think it’s interesting and he will wait until the end of the year now at this point.”

While Stephens is reportedly attracting interest from Victorian sides, he was drafted out of Norwood in the SANFL.
