The out-of-contract Magpie that has “some interest” from rival clubs

2023-08-04T07:34+10:00

Collingwood midfielder Trent Bianco could find himself at a second AFL club in 2024.

Bianco comes out of contract at the end of the season, and while AFL Media’s Josh Gabelich doesn’t expect Collingwood to offer the 22-year-old a new deal, he believes there’s some interest in the wingman at rival clubs.

The skilful ball user has played 23 games for the Magpies since making his debut in 2021 but has been a victim of Collingwood’s success in 2023, playing just one game so far this season as a tactical substitute.

Bianco is one of many Magpies enjoying a strong season in the VFL, with averages of 24.5 disposals and 5.5 marks a game in the state league.

Gabelich believes he could be a candidate to join a new club as a delisted free agent this off-season.

“Well, he (Bianco) is out of contract and it doesn't look like he'll get a new deal at Collingwood,” Gabelich said on SEN Sportsday.

“He hit a trigger last year for (a one-year extension) this year.

“He's had a great season at VFL level like Fin Macrae, Josh Carmichael and Will Kelly.

“But it doesn't look like he (Bianco) will get a new deal at Collingwood at this point.

“They've got so many options on a wing, so we'll just have to wait and see.

“I think he's got some interest, but it might be as a delisted free agent at the end of the season.”

Bianco is one of nine Magpies without a deal for 2024, SEN.com.au went through each out-of-contract player here and gave a verdict on whether the club should keep, trade or delist those currently without their futures locked in.
