Burgess hit hardest as judiciary hands down charges

2023-08-06T11:51+10:00

The South Sydney Rabbitohs could be without veteran forward Thomas Burgess for the remainder of the regular season after the latest report from the Match Review Committee.

Burgess was sent to the sin bin in his side's loss to the Cronulla Sharks and was charged with a Grade 2 Careless High Tackle.

The Englishman can take the early guilty plea, which will see him miss the final three games of the season or appeal the decision but risk missing the first week of finals - if Souths finish in the top eight.

Amongst the other forwards hit with suspensions are Titans forward Moeaki Fotuaika and Roosters forward Nathan Brown, who were both sent off on consecutive nights.

Despite both being sent off, the pair was charged with a Grade 2 Careless High Tackle charge which will see them both miss a week with the early guilty plea.

Controversially, Panthers star Jarome Luai was sparred any time on the sidelines after he was sanctioned for a high shot on Storm forward Nelson Asofa-Solomona.

Luai can take the early guilty plea and cop a $3000 fine or fight the charge but risk a two-week suspension.
