“They’re in scary good form”: Former AFL coach bullish that Blues can beat Dees

2023-08-10T12:30+10:00

Former Adelaide head coach Brenton Sanderson believes that Carlton is in the box seat to beat Melbourne on Saturday night, which will skyrocket them into premiership conversations.

The Blues currently find themselves on a seven-game winning streak, including impressive performances against flag favourites Collingwood and Port Adelaide.

They now face the Demons, coincidentally the team they last lost to, in another challenge Sanderson thinks they will triumphantly overcome.

“I just love the way Carlton are going about it at the moment,” he told SEN’s Whateley.

“They’re executing so well.

“I think they’re so predictable for us to watch and you think that would be easier to form a strategy against to beat them, but it’s simple for the players.”

Should the hot Blues claim a win on Saturday at the MCG, Sanderson believed that the door may open for fans to get excited about their chances in September.

“They’re in scary good form,” he said.

“They get some players back from injury over the next few weeks as well.

“I think they’re going to be very hard to beat in September.”

Sanderson also noted the hunger instilled in the Blues to avenge their heart-breaking finish to the 2022 season, where a shattering one-point defeat to Collingwood in the final round caused them to fall outside the eight.

They were also beaten at the siren by Melbourne the week prior.

“They’ve been waiting so long for the opportunity to redeem what happened this time last year,” he said.

All eyes will be on the MCG on Saturday night for what is a season-defining clash for Carlton.
