Luke Brooks fires parting shot at Tigers' management amid off-field changes

2023-08-18T10:10+10:00

Wests Tigers halfback Luke Brooks has fired a parting shot at club management ahead of his final home game for the club.

After a tumultuous week at the Tigers which saw head coach Tim Sheens step down and hand the reins to assistant Benji Marshall, Brooks admitted his frustration at the apparent lack of direction at the club.

“To be honest, I don’t really know who makes the decision here,” Brooks told the media.

“Just everyone being on the same page and making the right decisions to go forward (would be in) the club’s best interest.”

Brooks will depart at the end of the season to join Manly and The Daily Telgraph’s David Riccio noted a change in how the playmaker has addressed the media during his time at the Tigers.

“Brooks through the early part of his career didn’t give much detail in his interviews,” Riccio saud on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“He was quite vanilla and you always got the cliche answers.

“I have noticed that in the past 12 months, he has been quite open, honest and more absolute in his answers.

“He plays his final home game this weekend and is on the way out so you can probably save those comments for after you have left the club.

“I have no problem with it however because he spoke the truth.

“It’s the current plight at the Wests Tigers that the players are feeling like they don’t know who is running the footy club.

“The players want everyone to be on the same page (and) you are watching the same old clubs get their house in order and have success on the footy field.

“The players would be looking out the window and asking why they can’t be like that.”

Following Sheens’ decision, the Tigers have flagged a number of changes off the field with current assistant coach Robbie Farah expected to become general manager.

Riccio said for the sake of the club, the Tigers must allow Marshall to take control of the team in the final few weeks of the season.

“I believe that Benji has been doing 80-90% of the coaching over the past few weeks,” Riccio continued.

“As this season winds down, Benji is the one who really has to take control.

“We’ll see over the next 24-48 hours over John Morris (who) is expected to become an assistant.

“I’m hearing a meeting (soon) and we will get news over the weekend about joining the Wests Tigers.

“They want to put more support and senior experienced coaches around Benji with the departure of Sheens.”

The Tigers are all but destined to claim their second wooden spoon in as many seasons. However, the Tigers enter Round 25 as favourites to defeat an injury-depleted Dolphins side on Saturday.
