“It would be stupid”: Broncos assistant explains decision to rest Reynolds

2023-08-25T08:10+10:00

The Brisbane Broncos will be without star halfback Adam Reynolds for the final two games of the regular season as he rehabilitates a nagging calf injury.

After struggling with lower leg injuries in recent years, the decision to rest Reynolds didn’t come as a surprise with the Broncos all but securing a top-two finish in 2023.

With a Premiership-contending side for the first time in nearly a decade, Brisbane Broncos assistant coach Lee Briers shed light on the decision for the club to rest its star playmaker.

“We’ve earned the right (to rest players), if there’s any kind of risk with any players that they don’t play,” Brier told SEN 1170 Mornings.

“It would be stupid of us to play any player who has a niggle at this time of year, especially with where we’re sitting on the ladder.

“Adam is progressing well, (it’s) a little minor calf issue as we all know, he’s rehabbing well and we look forward to bringing Adam back.”

Despite several reports suggesting Reynolds won’t return until Week One of the finals, Brier admitted there’s a chance he could play the regular season finale against the Melbourne Storm.

“I’m not quite sure if (his return) is going to be next week against the Storm or the week after, I kind of stay out of those lanes and look after my job,” Brier added.

“We’ve got a fabulous physio group and they’ll be having Adam flying and ready to go when we need him.”
