Multiple clubs approach former Tiger over trade possibility

2023-09-04T17:37+10:00

Mabior Chol has attracted interest from a number of clubs, his management has confirmed, but his future beyond next year is no clearer.

Chol, 26, signed a four-year deal at Gold Coast when moving from Richmond at the end of 2021 but has fallen out of section favour in 2023.

Despite booting 44 goals from 22 games last year, he’s managed just eight appearances in 2023.

Chol moved to the Suns under former manager Ralph Carr but has recently changed management.

In a statement provided to SEN.com.au, Ashley Blair of Pacific Sports Management confirmed Chol wants to be at a club where he’s playing regular senior footy.

However, Blair also didn’t rule out remaining at the Suns.

“Mabior is focusing on the VFL final series and hopefully winning a premiership with the Suns. We are aware and have been approached by a number of clubs that are interested in Mabior due to his high-end talent to see where everything sits,” the statement reads.

“With Mabior still being involved in the VFL finals, Mabior has not yet had his exit interview with Gold Coast, so we are not sure of the Suns' position at this stage.

“Mabior still has 2 years remaining at Gold Coast and is really enjoying his time up there. However, like all players, Mabior wants to be a regular at AFL level. He demonstrated what he can do when he gets a regular opportunity at the AFL level kicking 44 goals and being the leading Suns goal kicker in 2022.

“Once the Suns VFL campaign is finished we will sit down with Mabior and the Suns and see where everything sits but as already stated he still has two seasons remaining on his contract with the Suns.”

SEN’s Tom Morris has previously revealed Chol is categorically on the trade table.

He’s been stuck behind Ben King, Jack Lukosius and Levi Casboult in 2023 and the Suns’ impending draft haul looms to make it more difficult for Chol to break through in 2024.

Chol has played 61 AFL games since being drafted back in 2015.
