Could forgotten Dockers midfielder be on the move again?

2023-09-06T13:07+10:00

Despite being labelled a steal in the 2022 season for Fremantle, midfielder Will Brodie’s name has again been discussed in trade proposals.

Brodie was traded to the Dockers from Gold Coast at the end of the 2021 season, along with pick 19, 61 and 69 in exchange for a future second and fourth round pick.

He then went on to play 24 matches last year, averaging an impressive 27 disposals and causing people to wonder why the Suns would let him go so easily.

This season, however, Brodie has not found the same form, falling behind in the midfield line that boasts elite talent such as first-time All Australian Caleb Serong and Andrew Brayshaw, Jaeger O'Meara, and young on-ballers like Hayden Young and Matthew Johnson.

Scott Cummings and Tim Gossage raised the question of whether Fremantle would consider moving him on.

“He’s got three years to run on a contract, he’s played five games, he hasn’t played since round seven,” Gossage said on SEN WA Breakfast.

“He’s not going to get into the midfield.

“What do they do with him?

“If a club came knocking, I have absolutely no doubt that if a deal could be struck, then he would find himself at another club.”

Gossage presented the idea that Brodie’s talents could be perfect for their crosstown rivals in the West Coast Eagles.

“Would West Coast entertain the thought?” he asked.

“He’s 25, he’s coming into his prime. There’s a couple of other inside midfielders that probably aren’t going to be around.”

However, Cummins wasn’t as sold on such a prospect.

“The problem there is that Fremantle and West Coast have a history of not playing nicely with each other,” he said.

“And so Fremantle will put a price on his head for West Coast that will be higher than the price on his head for a team in the east.”

After Liam Henry requested a trade back to Victoria last week, it seems that Fremantle will be a busy side in the upcoming trade period.
