Demons “close to perfection” ahead of Magpies Qualifying Final

2023-09-07T15:59+10:00

David King thinks Melbourne have timed their run into finals to perfection.

The Demons finished fourth but won seven of their last eight games in the lead-in to September, conversely their week one opponents in minor premiers Collingwood lost three of their last five.

With the two teams set to battle it out in a huge Qualifying Final at the MCG on Thursday night, King is loving how the Demons are shaping up.

Whether it’s the presence of Max Gawn, the tough midfield or the x-factor forward line, King thinks the Dees are firing on all cylinders.

“There's no bigger presence in this final series than Max Gawn,” King said on SEN The Picks.

“Max Gawn's a one-man wall down the line. Collingwood knows that all night they have to go around Max.

“They’ve got to change something in the way they want to play, to not play to Melbourne's weapons. That's the start.

“In the midfield, we talk a lot about Petracca Oliver and Viney - those guys, they're seriously tough. They're super honest.

“Then they’ve got the wild card of Bayley Fritsch in the forward half.

“We saw what he did against the Sydney Swans. We've hardly sighted him all year.

“We know what we know with him in finals. He's a big game player.”

While King doesn’t believe there’s a big gap between the two sides, he is tipping Melbourne as he feels they’re as close to perfection as they’ve looked this season.

“I just feel like they've timed their run really well,” King said.

“I don't think there's a big gap between the two teams and anything can happen.

“But I think Melbourne are right now close to perfection with how they want to look.

“I'm tipping them. Not by a big margin, I don't think there's a huge gap between these two teams.”

The bounce for Thursday’s huge game at the MCG is set for 7:20 pm (AEST).
