King and Whateley’s top four seeds after finals week one, 2023

2023-09-11T11:20+10:00

David King and Gerard Whateley have named their top four seeds following the first week of the 2023 finals series.

King and Whateley will each rank four teams they have the most confidence in going forward on a weekly basis throughout the year.

The seedings will be updated as the season goes on via SEN’s Whateley.

See their seedings below:

KING

1. Brisbane

“One is Brisbane.

“I just want to say a shout out Chris Fagan, they're the best version of themselves right now and that there's something in that we've been critical of them along the path.

“They've still got some warts and some things to fix up from the weekend.

“But they've come together at the right time and now they have a week off and back to the Gabba.”

2. Collingwood

“Collingwood are two for me.”

3. Melbourne

“I’m going to have to put Melbourne three.

“I can't hear the fact that Melbourne are done.

“Everyone's telling me that Melbourne, ‘No, no, that’s it, they’ve got to beat Carlton and then they’ve got to go to Brisbane’.

“I can see Melbourne wrapping back around.

“But they have to be a three given that the other two are through.”

4. GWS

“I'm staying with the Giants.

“I think I've got the Prelim Final four.”

WHATELEY

1. Collingwood

“I've agonized over this, but I already had Collingwood one.

“I'm not prepared to give up my position.

“They got their result in the Thursday night final.

“All the advantages are there and the next time we see that Nick Daicos is back, so Collingwood are my one seed.”

2. Brisbane

“The Brisbane win was more impressive (than Collingwood’s) from a certain point of view.

“In terms of team at venue, Brisbane at the Gabba have been the one seed all year, but that's not where it (the Grand Final) is going to be decided.”

3. Carlton

“I've got Carlton at three.

“I'm oversubscribed at Carlton.

“They won, I'm totally happy with that.”

4. Melbourne

“Melbourne lost, so Melbourne will just have to sit at four for the time being.”
