Two more senior assistant coaches to depart North Melbourne

2023-09-11T14:49+10:00

North Melbourne will lose two of its most senior coaches this off-season, with John Blakey and Gavin Brown to depart the club.

SEN.com.au understands the duo had meetings on Friday and by mutual agreement, will leave Arden Street in the coming weeks.

Brown has been the club's head of development for almost 10 years, while Blakey returned to the Roos at the end of 2020 after a lengthy stint at Sydney.

It's believed both highly regarded assistants are keen to remain in football in some capacity.

It continues North's summer re-shuffle, with Brett Ratten departing the club recently as well.

Blakey is a North Melbourne great, having played 224 games for the club and won two premierships.

It's unclear who will replace them, although Richmond assistant Xavier Clarke - who made the shortlist to be the next Tigers boss - is a person of interest for football boss Todd Viney and Alastair Clarkson.

Earlier on Monday, Damien Hardwick lured Geelong assistant coach Shaun Grigg to the Suns.
