Ron Barassi has passed away aged 87.
One of Australian football’s most towering and respected figures, Barassi passed away on Saturday, a day after his Demons bowed out of the 2023 finals series.
His family confirmed the news.
“After a full and extraordinary life, Ronald Dale Barassi, aged 87, left us today due to complications from a fall,” a short statement read.
“He died peacefully, surrounded by loving family. We ask for privacy at this time.”
Barassi is rembered for his impact on the game across both a playing and coaching career.
He won six premierships at Melbourne in the 1950s and 1960s and coached four flags across stints at Carlton and North Melbourne.
Barassi was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1996 as a Legend and is a Legend and life member of the Melbourne, Carlton, North Melbourne and Sydney Swans football clubs.
