The three clubs that will be the most active this trade period

2023-09-20T13:25+10:00

AFL Media's Cal Twomey has named the three clubs that he’s predicting will be the most active this upcoming trade period.

Twomey is suggesting Essendon, Port Adelaide and Sydney will be getting busy over the next four weeks as they look to improve from their 2023 seasons.

After reporting that they Bombers are leading the charge from St Kilda’s Jade Gresham, Twomey says Brad Scott’s Bombers have plenty of money to spend this trade period, and it’s time for them to start splashing their cash.

“Essendon have cap space and they have for a few years, and I think it’s time to use it,” Twomey told AFL Trade Radio Launch.

“Ben McKay obviously has interest from them and they’re in that ballpark and Jade Gresham as we mentioned they have interest in.

“Also Kai Lohmann and Todd Goldstein potentially as a ruck option to help out Sam Draper.”

As for Port Adelaide and Sydney, both clubs were bundled out of the final series over the last fortnight and will be looking to add to their list as they chase premiership success.

With the Power reportedly out of the McKay race, Twomey says they'll be looking elsewhere to add to their list with their large cap space.

“Port Adelaide have a lot of chips in their hand as well,” Twomey added.

“Sydney as well, although they’re out of the Ben McKay situation, they’re definitely looking for mature aged players and players that can come in and take them to that premiership glory.”

Sydney are expected to acquire Melbourne's Brodie Grundy this trade period.

The 2023 AFL Trade Period begins on Monday, October 9 and ends on Wednesday, October 18.
