“Everyone wants to make a big thing of that”: Pies defend Ginnivan’s unique preparation

Collingwood forward Jack Ginnivan had one of the more interesting nights before a Grand Final, but the Magpies have no issues with his preparation.

Ginnivan, who will play his 42nd game on Saturday, opted to head to the races on Friday night to relax.

Chief Sports Reporter Sam Edmund told SEN’s Crunch Time on Saturday that Ginnivan headed to the Moonee Valley racecourse on Friday night for the opening Group 1 of the night racing season.

Pies CEO Craig Kelly joined SEN’s Crunch Time and when questioned on Ginnivan’s unique preparation, stated he had no problems at all.

“Everyone wants to make a big thing of that, Jack does that most weekends,” Kelly

“He loves the races, loves going out there and relaxing, and he's such a relaxed kid and a beautiful kid and everyone wants to make a big hoo haa out of it. It’s not true.”

The 20-year-old is no stranger to controversy in the AFL but has risen above many to become a fan favourite at Collingwood given his flair and impact on contests.

The Grand Final will mark Ginnivan’s first time not starting as the substitute this finals series, replacing Pat Lipinski in Collingwood’s starting 22.

It’s one of two changes for the Magpies on Saturday, with Billy Frampton also replacing an injured Dan McStay.

Brisbane enters the clash unchanged.
