Five clubs that should attempt to trade for Clayton Oliver and what they could offer

2023-10-04T10:04+11:00

Hypothetically, if Clayton Oliver does leave Melbourne which clubs are best suited to pursue him?

The Demons would demand a monstrous trade for the gun midfielder who is believed to be somewhat gettable for rival clubs.

With that in mind, Brownlow Medallist Adam Cooney has taken a close look at which clubs would suit Oliver most as potential landing spots.

See his top five below:

5. Gold Coast

“It would be a pretty handy midfield if Clayton Oliver joined what they already have,” Cooney told AFL Trade Radio.

“The Suns have pick four. They don’t want that. Mabior Chol is reportedly exiting. You could package that up and a future first-round pick.

“They then trade those picks and pick five and get pick one and finish with Harley Reid and Chol.”

Cam Luke: “If I am Melbourne and the Suns are calling, I’m saying ‘where’s Ben King’? I don’t think Chol and two picks is enough.”

4. Geelong

“It’s more for what they need. I’m not sure what they have to satisfy Melbourne in a trade. It would involve pick seven and their future first and maybe a player.”

3. Adelaide

“Adelaide would be a good fit for Clayton Oliver. They’ve got a pick in the top 10. The future-first involved as well. Would they trade and prise a Darcy Fogarty out or a Riley Thilthorpe?”

“They can use those picks to work their way down to pick one.”

2. Essendon

“They have pick eight. Would they give up Harrison Jones? And the future-first.”

“He’s had some injury concerns, but he is the future of that forward line along with Peter Wright.”

1. Sydney

“Logan McDonald – is that juicy enough? Along with a first-round pick.”
