2023-10-05T06:50+11:00

Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli has claimed his fifth Charles Sutton Medal overnight.

The Bulldogs superstar polled 342 votes to comfortably win the award ahead of midfield mate Tom Liberatore on 278.

As a result, Bontempelli becomes just the sixth player in Dogs history to win five or more best and fairest awards and now sits two behind Scott West’s club record of seven and one in arrears of Gary Dempsey’s six.

The 27-year-old’s five best and fairests have come in just 10 seasons.

Dashing defender Ed Richards (193), the diminutive Caleb Daniel (190) and returning backman Liam Jones (172) made up the top five.

All-Australian ruckman Tim English finished seventh while key forward Aaron Naughton, who signed an eight-year deal on Wednesday, finished ninth.

Other award winners on the night included English who won the Tony Liberatore Most Improved Player award, Daniel who was named the Brad Johnson Best Team Player and James O’Donnell who was named the Chris Grant Best First Year Player.
