Koloamatangi re-signs with Bunnies as clubs circle Warriors workhorse

2023-10-12T09:39+11:00

South Sydney Rabbitohs second-rower Keaon Koloamatangi is set to re-sign with the club after speculation he may test the open market.

Koloamatangi enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2023 which resulted in his selection for the NSW Blues Game III State of Origin squad.

The Daily Telegraph’s Michael Carayannis said it’s a huge retention for the Rabbitohs who had all but resigned to the fact that the 25-year-old would hit the market on November 1.

“Keaon is going to sign with South Sydney for a further three years,” Carayannis said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“That’s massive for the Rabbitohs because it got to the point that he was certainly looking to go to that November 1 trade window.

“The Raiders and the Dragons were the clubs that were going to go all out for Keaon.

“He has inked a long-term deal to stay at South Sydney but a massive blow for the rest of the competition.

“Edge back rowers are pretty rare and there aren’t many on the open market.

“There are only a few out there for clubs who are looking to secure an edge back rower.”

In other transfer news, Warriors forward Josh Curran is contracted to the club until the end of 2024 but is reportedly allowed to negotiate with rival clubs come November 1.

Carayannis said a number of teams are in the market to secure Curran’s services for the 2025 season.

“He could be a good pick up for someone,” Carayannis said.

“The Dragons and Dogs will have a look at him.

‘He’s a good player and you forget that he’s 24 because he’s been around for a while.

“There’s massive upside to Josh Curran so he’d be a massive signing for those sides.”
