Hawks respond to Jack Gunston's trade request

2023-10-13T14:29+11:00

Hawthorn says it's no certainty a trade for Jack Gunston will be arranged before Wednesday’s deadline, with other targets remaining more of a priority.

Gunston’s trade request on Friday morning spiced up the trade period, with the 31-year-old requesting a trade back to Hawthorn after one year in Brisbane.

The Lions confirmed they would explore their options after reportedly being “floored” by the trade request, while Hawthorn has now detailed its intentions.

A statement provided to SEN.com.au reads: “The Hawthorn Football Club has recently been made aware of Jack Gunston’s request for a trade.

“The club will now assess this request.

“However, we are engaged in other trade discussions that remain our priority. These longer term priorities may preclude any discussions with Brisbane progressing.”

The Hawks are still chasing Mabior Chol and Massimo D'Ambrosio.

Gunston played 17 games for the Lions in 2023 for 22 goals. However, he was left out for Brisbane’s Preliminary and Grand Finals despite recovering from a knee injury.

He previously spent 10 seasons at Hawthorn after leaving Adelaide in 2011.
