The player Campbell Brown thinks can flourish and surprise at his new club in 2024

Hawthorn premiership player Campbell Brown has named the player that he thinks will surprise after moving clubs in the off-season.

Last off-season Bobby Hill moved from GWS to Collingwood for effectively a future second-round pick.

After moving with little fanfare, Hill went on to play a critical role in Collingwood’s premiership campaign and won the Norm Smith Medal for a glittering Grand Final performance over Brisbane.

While no traded player may reach similar heights next season, Brown was asked who he thinks can surpass expectations at their new club in 2024.

“I think that the guy that I've always had a lot of time for from the Melbourne Football Club is James Jordon,” Brown said on SEN Afternoons.

“I know the Sydney Swans were really keen to get their hands on him.

“He's played 65 games in four seasons there at Melbourne and he's 22 years of age.

“He was used as a sub a lot throughout the back end of his career there and in that Grand Final run, he hardly got on the ground from Round 23 through the final series.

“But I think he could be the guy at Sydney.”

With an increased role under John Longmire, Brown thinks Jordon can flourish and have people asking the question of why Melbourne let the free agent walk to a rival club so easily.

“Obviously, horse (John Longmire) has got a high opinion of him and will give him some more minutes through the midfield,” Brown said.

“He can find the footy, we know that. He's played a lot of footy, 22 games last year, 25 the year before that, even 18 this year albeit he probably didn't get the game time he would have liked.

“He could be the guy that really sort of steps up next year and people say, ‘Jeez, how could Melbourne have got rid of him?’.”

As Jordon was delisted by the Demons and re-signed at the end of 2020, he was free to move to Sydney as an unrestricted free agent.

He joins Taylor Adams, Brodie Grundy and Joel Hamling as senior inclusions for the Swans in 2024.
