West Coast urged to go after former Essendon CEO

2023-10-26T13:10+11:00

Tim Gossage has urged the West Coast Eagles to ask the question of Xavier Campbell regarding the club’s impending CEO vacancy.

The Eagles will be without a chief executive when incumbent Trevor Nisbett’s long-standing tenure finishes in October, 2024.

It is understood, according to The West Australian, that previous frontrunner - West Coast premiership hero Don Pyke - will turn down the role which will leave the powerhouse club still in pursuit of a Nisbett successor.

SEN WA’s Gossage is of the belief that former Essendon chief Campbell would be the perfect candidate for the job.

“Why haven’t the West Coast Eagles approached him to be their possible CEO?,” Gossage asked on SEN WA Breakfast.

“He is absolutely gettable. My mail is that he is keen to be involved in football.

“He is a CEO of high class and they could do a lot worse than at least pick up the phone and ring Xavier.

“West Coast Eagles, (chairman) Paul Fitzpatrick, whoever is in the decision making process, you haven’t got a CEO, I don’t even know if you’ve approached this bloke, but if you haven’t - can I just throw it out there - Xavier Campbell would be the absolute pièce de résistance as a CEO replacement for Trevor Nisbett at the West Coast Eagles.”

Campbell departed the Bombers in August, 2022 after almost nine years at the helm.

The Eagles will continue to search for a replacement for Nisbett, who has been in the West Coast role since 1999 and involved at the club since 1989.

He will finish up at the end of next season.
