“I'm coming back to win this World Cup”: Stoinis reveals text from Marsh

Mitch Marsh will return at some point during Australia’s World Cup campaign, but there’s no pressure on the all-rounder for when that is.

Marsh flew home to Perth on Sunday to deal with a private family matter. But the Western Australian himself is confident he will return at some point in the campaign.

Teammate Marcus Stoinis says Marsh has indicated his absence won’t be a lengthy one.

“He's got a family issue going on and like we all know, family is very important, the most important (thing) really,” Stoinis told reporters.

“He's doing the right thing and he's getting home and he's seeing the people he needs to see.

“I don't think there's a timeline on when he's coming back, but I'm sure he'll do what he needs to do at home and then get back.

“He sent me a message last night saying, 'I'll be home for a little bit and then I'm coming back to win this World Cup' so that speaks to his mindset I think.

“You miss him off the field – in terms of his energy and his personality around the team as much as we're going to miss him on the field – but you can pretty much see how the team’s going to line-up (without him).

“I joked with him that he just passes the overs back to me now – and ‘thanks for that’. You know that the bases are covered, but we will miss him, and he'll be back soon.”

Marsh has averaged 37.5 through the first six games of the World Cup and also taken two wickets. Australia is well placed to finish in the top four, currently sitting with a 4-2 record.

Both he and fellow all-rounder Glenn Maxwell – who was concussed in a freak incident on Wednesday – won’t play against England on Saturday.

But Stoinis is expected to overcome a leg injury for Australia’s seventh game of the tournament, while he also backed Cameron Green for a recall.
