“Will 2.0”: Zorko’s huge praise for Lions father-son prospect Levi Ashcroft

2023-12-08T13:55+11:00

Brisbane veteran Dayne Zorko has been impressed with what he’s seen from future Lions father-son prospect Levi Ashcroft.

Ashcroft has been training with the Lions this pre-season ahead of his under-18 season where he becomes eligible to be drafted at the end of the 2024 campaign.

Levi is the younger brother of star midfielder Will Ashcroft who was taken at pick No. 2 in the 2022 Draft.

Zorko says Levi is like ‘Will 2.0’ when it comes to his class with the football, with their main differences coming in their personalities off the field.

“Levi's in the house,” Zorko said on SENQ Breakfast.

“It’s similar to what Will did with us a few years ago obviously as a father-son.

“Hopefully we secure him next year in the draft, but he's been able to come down and train every now and then with us.

“It’s just Will 2.0, to be honest in terms of the class around the football field, he's exceptional.

“Little bit different to Will off-field, he’s a little bit more of a larrikin.

“They both love their American sports, NFL and stuff like that.”

“But Levi's quite the larrikin he has a little joke every now and then, he’s a bit of a prankster so he’s fit in really well which is great.”

Much like his older brother, Zorko says Levi lights up training drills – quite a remarkable feat for a kid who turns 17 in the next fortnight.

Zorko expects the Ashcroft brothers to have good battles with star Collingwood sibling duo Nick and Josh Daicos over the next decade.

“Similar to Will, he just has the ability to I guess light up a drill,” Zorko said.

“We’ve got some pretty handy players out on the track but his ability to not only match it with them but at times just weave in and out (is impressive).

“He’s got football nous and knowledge around the game, and he's got a little bit of x-factor with speed as well.

“It's certainly an exciting time to be a Brisbane fan. You could be looking at the Daicos boys and the Ashcroft boys going at it for a few years.

“He'll be available in the draft next year, so we'll be working hard to get him.

“His form in the TAC Cup (Coates League) this year was unbelievable.”

Levi Ashcroft has been tipped as a potential early first-round pick in the 2024 AFL Draft.
