Josh Jenkins’ three biggest AFL stories of 2023

2023-12-13T09:13+11:00

Josh Jenkins has named his three biggest AFL stories of 2023, as the year draws to a close.

The former Adelaide forward ranked them on SEN’s The Run Home, picking out a coaching move, the premiership and a hugely controversial moment.

See them below:

3. Damien Hardwick’s resignation

“Damien Hardwick stepping aside at Richmond first and foremost and within 90 days putting the polo on at Gold Coast,” Jenkins told SEN’s The Run Home.

“It will be a big story how they go next year.”

2. Pies win the flag

“I’ll go with the Flagpies at two. It was good to see their hard work come to fruition. Whenever the biggest team in any competition wins a championship, it’s big.”

“Like, if the Dallas Cowboys win the Super Bowl it’s massive or the Lakers or the Celtics in the NBA. I think the Flagpies are number two on that alone.”

1. Goal umpire costs Adelaide finals

“I actually think number one is the goal umpire failure that cost Adelaide a spot in the finals,” Jenkins said.

“Unfortunately, it cost a team a spot in the finals.

“This decision was at the end of the game and was able to be checked and chosen to be not checked.

“If you’re thinking – was that the biggest story – if you were in Adelaide when it was happening you would have felt the firestorm and they’re still heaving about it.

“They drafted a big key back (Dan Curtin), if he’s good right away they should be ready to rock and roll, Adelaide.”
