“They’re bottom four”: Cornes predicts tough year for Yze's Tigers

2024-01-05T15:20+11:00

Kane Cornes has predicted a bottom four finish for the Tigers in their first year under new coach Adam Yze.

Speaking on SEN Breakfast, Cornes recalled the anticipation built around Richmond’s 2023 campaign, where Trent Cotchin was shifted forward to make room for star midfield recruits Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper.

The season culminated in a 13th-placed finish and the departure of three-time premiership coach Damien Hardwick.

They have since said goodbye to hero's Cotchin and Jack Riewoldt and don’t appear close to flag contention.

“I think they’re bottom four,” Cornes said.

“You watch in the next month or so we’re gonna get a lot of information from clubs… ‘someone’s gonna be the next Dustin Martin as a mid/forward.”

“Last year it was Trent Cotchin and I said ‘if Trent Cotchin kicks more than 15 goals for the year, I’ll run eight laps of the tan wearing a number 9 Richmond jumper.

“Of course I was right… he didn’t get anywhere near 15.

“I’ll do something similar if Richmond make the eight.”

Richmond’s 2024 campaign will kick off in Opening Round against former coach Damien Hardwick on the Gold Coast, March 9.
