The young and fringe Giants who can take the club forward in 2024

2024-01-21T13:10+11:00

GWS surprised the footy world by storming into the Preliminary Final last season.

In Adam Kingsley’s first campaign in charge, the Giants turned around a 4-8 record at the midway point to finish the home and away season in seventh position.

They then won two finals before going down to eventual premiers Collingwood by just one point in the prelim.

Nobody expected the Giants to do what they did having finished 16th in 2022 - a year in which long-time coach Leon Cameron departed the club.

Their uptick came on the back of improvement from the likes of Tom Green, Connor Idun, Lachie Ash and Finn Callaghan, among others, but who will be the ones to take them forward in 2024?

Captain Toby Greene has identified several Giants who he feels can further improve the side, highlighting both Idun and Callaghan as players who can still find another level.

“I think Connor (Idun) can still go to another level and I think he will,” Greene said on SEN Breakfast.

“Guys like Darcy Jones, Toby McMullin has come back really fit and will be pushing to play as well.

“Finn (Callaghan) has taken another step as well. He’s absolutely flying.

“Ryan Angwin again on the wings. We were doing 150s the other day and it’s pretty incredible to see some of these boys running around.

“There are some serious movers in the group.”

The Giants will look to kick off their 2024 season with a win by exacting revenge on the Magpies at home in Opening Round on March 9.
