Dermott Brereton has named Gold Coast’s Bailey Humphrey as his breakout player for the 2024 AFL season.
Humphrey was selected with Pick 6 in the 2022 National Draft and played 19 games for the Suns in his debut season.
He showed a flair across half-forward and through the midfield that excited many, kicking 11 goals and averaging 12.4 disposals per game.
“The one who is going to have a breakout year for me – Bailey Humphrey,” Brereton told SEN’s The Run Home.
“I reckon he’s going to be seriously good.
“The great players, and I’m not saying he is yet, but the great players have all been blessed with genetically a physical capability that sets them aside from the average league player – who’s pretty good anyway.
“You need the genetics which gives you something and Bailey Humphrey has raw power.”
Gerard Healy was also incredibly impressed with what he saw from Humphrey in 2023.
“Young Humphrey, he looks like a kid of immense talent that could be utilised through the midfield,” Healy told SEN’s Sportsday in 2023.
“I saw him in person about four weeks ago and he is clearly top class that kid.”
