“Ginni has been great”: Teammate excited by what Hawthorn recruit can bring

2024-01-27T14:45+11:00

Hawthorn midfielder Connor Nash is excited about what Hawthorn’s off-season recruits can add ahead of the 2024 season.

The Hawks particularly bolstered their forward line with Jack Ginnivan, Mabior Chol and Jack Gunston all arriving via trade.

The player that attracted the most headlines out of that trio was Ginnivan, who only just won a premiership with Collingwood before asking for a move to Waverley Park.

While Ginnivan endured off-field issues and some form slumps at Collingwood, he still kicked an impressive 58 goals from 42 games in black and white and only just turned 21.

According to Nash, the early signs from Ginnivan at Hawthorn indicate that he’ll again prove a handful up forward for the opposition in his new colours.

“To be honest, Ginni has been great,” Nash told SEN Afternoons.

“He actually keeps himself a lot around the club.

“He’s fitting in really well with a lot of the boys. He was mates with quite a few of the lads before coming across.

“Actually, he's quite quiet, but on the field, he’s certainly fiery and does things his own way.

“But he's been great, and we've loved the way he's fitted in over the last few months.”

As for Chol, Nash has been surprised by the former Tiger and Sun’s aerial ability and he expects the key forward to make a good pairing with Mitch Lewis and potentially even returning favourite son Gunston.

“We've certainly a new look forward line coming in and Mabior has been really, really good,” Nash said.

“In the last while watching him in match sim he’s getting going and he’s just a big presence up forward.

“He has a phenomenal leap, and he rarely misses when he's in front.

“We’re looking forward to having him up with Mitch Lewis and Jack Gunston perhaps.

“It's going to be an exciting year going forward.”

Hawthorn begin their 2023 campaign with a Round 1 clash against Essendon at the MCG on Saturday, March 16.
