Cameron George has one heck of a poker face.
Speaking with SEN 1170 in early December, the One NZ Warriors CEO revealed that he was 'not confident' in securing the services of gun second rower Kurt Capewell for the upcoming NRL season, despite putting a long-term contract on the table.
Within 48 hours, it was announced by the Auckland-based club that Capewell would indeed be leaving the Brisbane Broncos to join the Warriors immediately on a three-year deal.
It was a signing that brought with it plenty of excitement and hope for the Warriors faithful. This season their forward pack consists of captain Tohu Harris, Dally M Prop of the Year Addin Fonua-Blake, Wayde Egan, Mitch Barnett, Jackson Ford, and now Capewell to round out what could be the best-looking starting pack the club has fielded in years.
Inspired to make the move across the ditch partly by last year's infectious 'Up The Wahs' movement, Capewell brings with him a championship-winning mentality from his 2021 premiership with Penrith.
Recently, he spoke with Stephen Donald and John Afoa on SENZ's The Run Home about settling into life in Auckland and his pre-season training.
