VAFA star Sam Sofronidis is set to audition for a list spot at Essendon prior to the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection period’s end.
The Collegians star spent the summer training with Collingwood and featured in the Magpies’ intra-club on Wednesday but was overlooked for an SSP spot with Lachie Sullivan, Josh Eyre and Jack Bytel being signed instead.
Sofronidis, 23, will now be looked at by the Dons with the deadline for SSP additions coming on Monday, February 19.
Essendon have a training session on Saturday which Sofronidis will take part in.
Standing at 194cm, Sofronidis presents as a tall defender with strong intercepting ability and high footy smarts.
Essendon struggled in defence last season but bolstered their key back stocks through the addition of free agent Ben McKay.
Unfortunately, the Dons lost Brandon Zerk-Thatcher to Port Adelaide in the trade period, with Sofronodis a chance to now fill a list need.
Essendon’s remaining list spot was freed up when Jaiden Hunter ruptured his ACL in January and was moved to the inactive list.
