Injury-riddled Magpie suffers another blow on eve of 2024 season

2024-02-27T17:55+11:00

Collingwood's Nathan Kreuger has been sent for scans on a hamstring injury, Magpies assistant coach Justin Leppistch confirmed.

Kreuger is understood to have suffered a hamstring strain during a VFL scratch match at Punt Road Oval on Tuesday afternoon against Richmond.

“Yeah, it seems that way,” Leppitsch told SEN’s Sportsday when asked if Kreuger had sustained a hamstring injury.

“I just got word when I got into the changerooms that he’s on the way to get the MRI now. I’m not sure the extent of it, but it seems the case, yeah.”

It continues a wretched run with injuries for Kreuger at Collingwood. He underwent a right shoulder reconstruction at the start of 2023 after his 2022 campaign was cruelled by issues with his left shoulder.

The 24-year-old, who departed Geelong at the end of 2021, has managed just seven games for Craig McRae in the past two years. He spent much of 2023 in the VFL, stuck behind Darcy Cameron and Mason Cox in Collingwood’s ruck stocks.

Collingwood’s senior side takes on Richmond on Tuesday night, with all the action to be heard LIVE on the SEN App and across the SEN Network.
