What would AFL captains change if they were CEO for a day?

What would you change if you were AFL CEO for a day?

We asked the majority of AFL captains what they would do first if they temporarily stepped into the shoes of Andrew Dillon.

Some responses were legitimate and worth some thought, while some were a little bit more facetious.

Read what they had to say below:

BRISBANE: “I’d turn it back to the old NAB Cup rules that if a shot at goal hits the post the ball comes back into play,” said Harris Andrews.

CARLTON: “I don’t mind the Grand Final being a twilight (game). It might be a bit controversial, but I think that would be the best time for it,” said Patrick Cripps.

COLLINGWOOD: “I would get rid of media polos so you wouldn’t have to wear ugly polo shirts with stickers all over them,” said Darcy Moore.

“So players can wear casual clothes to and from games.”

ESSENDON: “I’d love to get back to some 90s footy,” said Zach Merrett.

“My way to do that is to play 16 v 16, get rid of rotations, get rid of some players off the field and make it 1 v 1. Less coaching, less pre-season and more games.

“Give the fans more of what they want.”

FREMANTLE: “I’d say pay the players more but that’s probably a bit selfish,” said Alex Pearce.

“Maybe bring that Tassie team in a bit earlier. Get them in.”

GOLD COAST: “Give Gold Coast more Friday night games,” said Touk Miller.

GWS GIANTS: “I’d give the Giants 15 home games and build from there,” said Josh Kelly (in place of Toby Greene).

MELBOURNE: “I’d probably make the ruck a free-for-all with no free kicks at all,” said Max Gawn.

“Actually I’d do not much. I’m not the right guy for AFL CEO.”

PORT ADELAIDE: “Pay the players more,” said Connor Rozee.

RICHMOND: “No pre-season,” laughed Toby Nankervis.

ST KILDA: “I would bring in a 20th AFL team and put it in Canberra,” said Jack Steele.

SYDNEY: “I’d make the pre-season later,” said Callum Mills.

WEST COAST: “I’d love it if the ball hits the post and comes back in then it’s play on,” said Oscar Allen.

“Selfishly as a forward, if it hits the post and still goes through it would be nice to take six points for it.”

Note: Adelaide’s Jordan Dawson, Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield, Hawthorn’s James Sicily, North Melbourne’s Jy Simpkin and Western Bulldogs’ Marcus Bontempelli were unable to be reached for an answer.
